Typhoon Frank may have left the Philippines and it left us with devastating memories. Cebu experienced 2 days of continuous rain last June 19/20 to announce Frank's arrival. It was fortunate that the flights to Manila were not cancelled on the 21st. Because of that I was able to attend the Transformers Animated Toy Launch. I returned that same day when Frank decided to visit Manila. I took the 7pm flight back to Cebu in a nick of time otherwise I would have been stranded in Manila for a night... whew... Last June 26, I boarded a Cathay Pacific flight to the land of cheap and abundant toys... nope, not Japan, but Hong Kong. Lo and behold, typhoon "Fengshan" was wrecking havoc earlier that day. We did able to make a landing and rains stopped for a bit... Just enough for me to go to my hotel, have dinner, and drop by TRU... Then rain poured again when I was less than 50 meters from my hotel... yeah, its a bummer... But thats what I call dodging typhoons.
Another skill I learned on my stay in Hong Kong was how to dodge umbrellas.. yep, those spikes from umbrellas of various heights. It continued to rain after Fengshan and people would naturally bring their trusty umbrellas while walking the streets. You'd suddenly encounter an incoming spike so you'd have to be quick to decide to duck, move left, or move right to avoid being hit. Others were kind enough to raise their umbrellas to avoid anyone getting hit.
It was fun dodging all those umbrellas... and hopefully the typhoons wont be following me anymore...
Hey until when ka there bai? We were there on sunday (June 22) and went home thursday (june 26)...... it was a bummer of time alright...... on sunday we had to take a connecting flight from Davao-Manila-HK.... in which our flight was coming in Manila was almost cancelled...... upon landing our plane had to go back up again due to strong winds..... grabe... the pilot announce if the weather will not cooperate we will have to go to Cebu to land...... buti nalang the weather somehow cleared up and it was IMO the smoothest landing ever in a signal no.3 bagyo situation... everyone in the plane applauded the pilot.... so our flight to HK was delayed (2hrs).... then pagdating ayus na weather was humid but it was okay.....
then monday ok pa at least we got to go to HK Disneyland para sa baby ko...... the comes tuesday my supposedly "Toy Hunt" night..... aysus pagdating ko sa Mongkok around 9pm almost more than half of the ToyShops are closed already...... taka ako hmmmmm.... maybe I was late in going there or dunno???? We were oblivious that time na humabol pala ung bagyo sa amin sa HK.... grrrrr..... mao diay gihabog mi (kaya pala pinauwi na kami) sa manager ng Giordano na the typhoon will hit HK at 11pm hahay...... tapos next day (wed) all shops in Tsim Tsa tsui was closed until mga 3pm+......
Hehehe I can relate with you bai.... being kinda tall I was avoiding the spikes all the way...... especially from the old folks na medyo face level ko ung spikes ng umbrella.... then after walking for a while in the rain soaked street with your umbrella you have to brave for the sudden rush of strong winds and pray/hope that the umbrella your holding won't be blown off or be destroyed by it.......
bai randall... i arrived pm of june 26 while fengshan was "leaving" hk... but it rained throughout the duration of my stay... good thing you were able to enjoy disney pa...
yep the typhoon hit midnight daw... i saw a cnn news video while on flight and the winds were terrible... typhoons really dampen the holiday mood... hehehe
